Support health care for children and adolescents with disabilities in rural areas of Rwanda through diagnosis, provision of assistive devices and treatment options.
Supporting health professionals through further education and training in diagnosing disabilities in children and adolescents in Rwanda. Relatives are to be informed and trained and networks for those affected are to be created.

Our mobile team is composed of a doctor, a psychologist, an orthopaedic technician, a physiotherapist, a nutritionist, and a manager. Together, we travel to remote villages in Karongi and Rutsiro District to provide comprehensive and accessible care. The services we offer include medical diagnosis, individualized treatment plans, physiotherapy, provision of orthopaedic aids, support in accessing health insurance, referrals and coordination for operations in specialist hospitals when required, psychological counselling, nutritional guidance, and continuous follow-up to ensure long-term care and support.

First contact persons are the Community Health Workers, who are volunteers in almost every village and have been elected for this office by the community beforehand. They take responsibility for the children and adolescents in their care and also provide follow-up care and support during the times when there is no medical team on site. These local professionals will be regularly trained and educated to become more competent in diagnosis and early detection. They pass on this knowledge and their experience to their colleagues. This will help detect preventable diseases and disabilities earlier and improve child health in Rwanda in the long term.
