The role focuses on delivering primary health care services in rural communities across Karongi and Rutsiro, with an emphasis on early detection, diagnosis, treatment planning and follow-up care.

Position Summary

We are seeking a qualified and experienced General Practitioner (Medical Doctor) to join our mobile outreach team based in Kibuye. The role focuses on delivering integrated primary health care services in remote communities across Karongi and Rutsiro, with a strong emphasis on early detection, diagnosis, treatment planning and continuity of care.

The position requires close collaboration with our multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and patient-centered service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct clinical assessments, diagnosis, and treatment of patients during outreach activities
  • Identify and support early detection of health conditions, including developmental and disability-related conditions in children and youth
  • Develop and oversee individualized treatment and referral plans
  • Ensure structured follow-up and continuity of care within community and facility-based systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g. physiotherapy, social support, eye care, nutrition)
  • Support integration of primary health care into community-based outreach services
  • Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with national standards and submit timely reports
  • Strengthen referral pathways to public health facilities in line with the Rwandan health system
  • Participate in community awareness and preventive health activities
  • Contribute to health education and awareness on eye health at community level
  • Ensure adherence to professional, ethical, and infection prevention standards
  • Work closely with the Bienfait Rwanda health team and local health facilities
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact health care interventions and report on progress. Contribute to timely and accurate reporting to donors.
  • Experience in data collection, monitoring, and reporting and knowledge of sign language is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within Karongi, Rutsiro and neighboring districts.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Medical Doctor (MD) degree from a recognized institution
  • Valid license to practice issued by the Rwanda Medical and Dental Council
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience, preferably in primary health care or rural settings
  • Proven experience in outreach programs or community-based health services is a strong advantage
  • Strong competencies in diagnosis, treatment planning and patient management
  • Experience working with children and youth, including those with disabilities, is an asset
  • Ability to work in resource-limited settings and adapt to mobile service delivery
  • Experience in orthopedic is a strong advantage
